Ways to Dispose of Inventorial Equipment

Summary: Find out how you can dispose of excess equipment.

Inventorial Equipment refers to items that must be tracked through UCSC's property and financial systems. For more information on equipment, please see Inventorial Equipment Overview & Guidelines.

Your department may dispose of excess equipment only if the University holds the title to that equipment. When you dispose of UC-owned equipment, you must complete the proper steps to remove the record from UCSC's property and financial systems.

• Trade-in - You may trade in equipment on a new purchase using the purchase order process. See How to Handle Equipment as a Trade-in.
• Transfer - You may transfer excess equipment to another UCSC department or UC campus. See How to Transfer Equipment.
• Report Lost or Stolen - Equipment may be considered disposed of if it is lost or stolen. See How to Report Lost or Stolen Equipment.
• Send to Surplus Operations - UCSC Surplus Operations serves as a means to liquidate/ dispose of excess University property by holding public sales and facilitating interdepartmental transfers. See How to Dispose of Surplus (Excess) Inventorial Equipment.

Note: Sale of equipment through any means other than Surplus Operations is prohibited.
